My love for mixed media comes naturally. I was born into the world of color & metal, literally. My mother, Mary, is a painter and known primarily in Michigan and the Midwest for her oil landscapes & large graphite drawings on canvas. My father, John, is a tool & die man, having started several companies during my youth, one still in existence and bearing the Cambron name.
I started my illustrious career of selling art at around age 7, when I got my first "Hot Pad Loom" for Christmas. Unlike today, they were made of metal & the loops made of cotton. I cranked out hotpads by the dozens & sold them to neighbors who thought I was ever so cute & enterprising. After that, I sold macrame (7th grade & getting into galleries), then soft sculpture... So, you can see, it's something I have to do, can't help doing, am committed to doing & will do until I die! Ughh- hard to admit, but NOT hard to accept! (Can I interest you in property just west of...)
After receiving a BFA in Drawing (much to my father's dismay), I maintained a variety of jobs from creative director to freelance designer. I continued my entrepreneureousnous (not a word but I make up words- ask my kids) nature by developing a greeting card line with Recycled Paper Greetings, whimsical calendars (Landmark) & book covers (Meadowlark) sold nationally and continued creating fine art which I sold at highly juried art fairs and a handful of galleries. I experimented in virtually all mediums before I made a full time commitment to glass in 1998.
Doing what I love all day is way too much fun. Being present in some of the finest galleries, museums and private collections in the world is an honor and a dream come true.
